Autorickshaw is a new world music ensemble steeped in the traditions of North and South Indian classical music, while also drawing from Western classical, jazz and contemporary music influences. Autorickshaw thrives on the diverse musicalbackgrounds of its members Suba Sankaran (voice, piano, percussion), Ed Hanley (tabla, percussion, voice), Rich Brown (bass), Debashis Sinha (percussion) and George Koller (bass, esraj, voice). One of the primary goals of autorickshaw is to bring the traditional training in Indian classical music, jazz and Western classical music together with the collective upbringing in multicultural society to create and perform music that, while strongly rooted in ancient, traditional artforms, is uniquely Canadian.
