"For there and then" (2005) is the latest CD released by the incomparable Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan. This new CD features the ensemble with a variety of plucked string soloists - from an elegaic 3-movement harp concerto to an effervescent kacapi trio.
Evergreen Club is an eight member ensemble featuring some of Toronto's finest percussionists playing Sundanese (west Javanese) gamelan instruments. Evergreen Club's gamelan is a collection of Indonesian instruments including bronze and wooden percussion instruments - nipple gongs, metalophones, xylophone, and hand drums - bamboo flute, and a 20-string plucked zither, the kacapi.
"For there and then" combines world music with contemporary classical music. Expressing a wide range of virtuosity in blending plucked strings from around the world with Indonesian gamelan instruments, Evergreen Club imaginatively transports the listener to new worlds of sound and sensation.
"For there and then" travels from the formally grand concerto to the more stylistically intimate pieces which feature: kora (African plucked zither), by composer/performer Daniel Janke; two nylon string guitars, performed by William Beavais and Stephen Wingfield and composed by Ronald Bruce Smith; electric guitar and kacapi, two works by composer/performer Bill Parsons.

The collection of pieces heard on "For there and then" delivers a mood and sensibility reflective of today's ever-changing global perspective.
