On February 5, 2004, we wired up the Lula Lounge to record our first album. We invited practically the whole city of Toronto. Although only a fraction showed up, that, along with a few diehards from out of town, still constituted a full house. So there we found ourselves, in one of the swankier joints in the city, with a couple hundred people waiting for us to make a record.

The "live recording" is to a band, what "sudden death overtime" is to a hockey team. While the idea is to capture the magic that happens between the musicians and the audience, once the tape starts rolling, you have no second chance. Did you know that even on the fastest breakdown, there is enough time to ask yourself, "Do I really want to hear myself play this lick on record for the rest of my life?" between every note?
Later, listening back to what we'd done, we found the excitement of the evening made it's way into some tracks more than others, or as Quinn put it, "Some stuff we liked, and other stuff we will release under the name Tony Orlando and Dawn." So, on March 13, 2004, we wired up the Dominion on Queen to record our first album - again.
The Dominion Tavern is one of Toronto's oldest establishments (est. 1886) and is where we've performed every Saturday afternoon since 2002. It's our "old home place", you might say. So on that Saturday, we played our weekly house gig, just like we always do, for our faithful fans in a relaxed environment. We had a great time, as usual, and we hardly thought about the tape. When we listened back, it sounded like us.

This CD is a compilation of our favourite tracks from both nights. We hope you enjoy it, and we thank you for listening.

"If you can get close enough to feel the wind coming off a well played banjo or mandolin, you'll probably come back for more. Normal people get converted into bluegrass fans by getting tight with The Foggy Hogtown Boys. The classic repertoire thrives in their able hands and strong hearts. You can count on these guys to play it solid, and to drive it hard. Accept no substitutes, this is the real thing."
- Tim O'Brien
The Band:
Chris Quinn is known as a creative and hard driving banjo player with a flair for keeping it fresh. Over the years he has played in a variety of Bluegrass bands and on countless recordings. He is also widely regarded as a 'walking encyclopedia' on Bluegrass music.
Andrew Collins runs the range of gritty Bill Monroe blues to the smoothest melodic lines of contemporary Bluegrass mandolin. He also sings lead and harmony.

Chris Coole is a warm lead and harmony singer and guitarist of unadorned and honest qualities. His playing provides an undercurrent of steady rhythm at every tempo. Chris has also released two highly regarded CDs on which he plays his first instrument - clawhammer banjo.
John McNaughton
is a true high-roving tenor and lead singer and award winning Bluegrass DJ. He not only keeps the band in time with his swinging, solid bass lines, but also 'up with the times'.
John Showman has spent years mastering Canadian East Coast and Irish music. In the last few years he has been devouring Bluegrass. His playing adds both fire and soul to the band.
