Northern White Clouds is a truly Canadian Bluegrass experience. This release highlights for the first time the Foggy Hogtown Boys' classic-sounding original songs and tunes. Ten new compositions are supplemented by a couple of gems from Mike O'Reilly, Gordon Lightfoot and an arrangement of a traditional folksong collected by Edith Fowke.

From the liner notes of Northern White Clouds

When we first started planning this project, the idea was to make an all Canadian bluegrass album and feature some the country's great songwriters. We had hoped to include a few original pieces for good measure. As we were developing material, we all started showing up with tunes and songs we'd written; some recently, some over the course of the last several years. As we arranged the new tunes and started performing them at live shows, the songs took on lives of their own. The music got to feeling just right and really allowed us to further explore our own sound. By the time we got into the studio in April of 2005, we had an album of mostly original material with three really fine Canadian penned songs to round things out.

The title of the album - "Northern White Clouds" comes from a Bill Monroe instrumental. One can easily imagine Mr. Monroe staring out the window of his bus, half way through a long haul and just letting his genius take over. Clouds to the north - another haunting piece added to the bluegrass story. Although we didn't record the tune on this album, we wanted to give a nod to the foundation that all of us modern bluegrass musicians are dedicated to standing on. In a way, it also symbolized a whole great bluegrass community we have here in Canada.
The Band:

Chris Quinn is known as a creative and hard driving banjo player with a flair for keeping it fresh. Over the years he has played in a variety of Bluegrass bands and on countless recordings. He is also widely regarded as a 'walking encyclopedia' on Bluegrass music.
Andrew Collins runs the range of gritty Bill Monroe blues to the smoothest melodic lines of contemporary Bluegrass mandolin. He also sings lead and harmony.

Chris Coole is a warm lead and harmony singer and guitarist of unadorned and honest qualities. His playing provides an undercurrent of steady rhythm at every tempo. Chris has also released two highly regarded CDs on which he plays his first instrument - clawhammer banjo.
John McNaughton
is a true high-roving tenor and lead singer and award winning Bluegrass DJ. He not only keeps the band in time with his swinging, solid bass lines, but also 'up with the times'.
John Showman has spent years mastering Canadian East Coast and Irish music. In the last few years he has been devouring Bluegrass. His playing adds both fire and soul to the band.
