About the Group
Philip Koutev (1903-1982) founded this group 1951 to authentically perform Bulgarian folk music. Its members were originally recruited for the smallest villages through out Bulgaria and have been a model for ensembles that have followed. The Group is currently led by Philip's daughter Elena Kouteva.
About the Recording.
This recording has several different types of songs. The choir of women are featured in serveral settings inmcluding full ensemble, trios and accomanied by traditional instruments (Kaval, and Bagpipes). There are also several expamples of instrumantal music in various arrangements. |
