These bright metal tingshaw are excellent quality with a metallic finish and real leather hanging strap. They have a great, carrying sound that really lasts. Made of a harmonic alloy and finished with lacquer and an embossed pattern of Buddhist mantras, these cast-metal bells are beautiful instruments. Great for use in meditation.
History:
Tingshaw bells are ritual artefacts used by Tibetan Buddhist monks for ceremonial prayer. They are also used in the Shamanist tradition. It is said that the tingshaw bells summon ‘hungry ghosts.’ By relieving the hunger of these spirits, their suffering is diminished and enlightenment can be reached. Tingshaw bells are also used in meditation as a way to focus the wandering mind. Tibetan monks chant the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”, as a way to invoke the powerful blessings of Chenrezig (the embodiment of compassion). In the Western word, Tingshaw bells are also commonly used by yoga instructors to mark the coming out of “Shavasana” (also known as the meditation).
Design:
Tingshaw bells are made of 5 metals: gold for the sun, silver for the moon, mercury for merecury, iron for mars, tin for jupiter, lead for saturn and also trace amounts of meteorite for a celestial element. It is very rare to find two cymbals that are identical in tone. Most Tingshaw bells are not perfectly matched and the dissonance between them creates a harmonic resonance that can last up to 30 seconds. Tingshaw bells are excellent for healing, meditation and chanting.
How to play:
Hold the bells by their cord and strike one against the other on their edges.
